Lost parcel

When a shipment is treated as lost, keep all evidence and use official procedures without confirming a delivery that did not occur.

A lost parcel must be distinguished from a shipment that is merely delayed or has stalled tracking.

If the carrier or transaction flow indicates that the shipment should be treated as lost:

  • keep tracking and proof of handover;
  • collect the label, receipts and shipment documentation;
  • use the official process available for the transaction or transport service;
  • keep relevant communications in channels linked to the sale where possible;
  • do not confirm delivery of a parcel that was not received.

How a carrier search, claim, refund or dispute is opened can depend on the service and transaction. This article does not automatically assign responsibility or promise a financial outcome.
