Pickguard fit is about the hole pattern

A guitar pickguard can have the correct outline and still be wrong for the instrument. Screw count and position, neck cutout, bridge clearance and control holes can change across production versions. Comparing a dimensioned drawing with the original part is more reliable than a broad model label.

Pickup routing has to match the electronics plan

SSS, HSS, HH and other layouts need the corresponding cut-outs. Confirm whether pickups mount to the pickguard or directly to the body. Switch and pot holes also need the correct position and diameter.

Changing the pickguard does not create extra pickup-routing space underneath it. Check the body before planning a larger pickup conversion.

Thickness and shielding affect installation

Single- and multi-ply pickguards come in different thicknesses. That can alter screw engagement and pickup-adjustment range. Edge bevel also changes with construction.

Shielding foil is useful only when it forms part of a properly grounded shielding scheme. A metal layer by itself does not guarantee noise reduction.

Used pickguards can be the right restoration part. For older guitars, an original or period-correct hole pattern may be more important than a perfect cosmetic surface. Inspect cracks around screws, warping, shrinkage and enlarged routing. Avoid drilling the instrument merely to make a nearly matching part fit when originality matters.
