A module must fit the case electrically as well as physically

In Eurorack, HP width is only the first check. The case needs enough depth, the correct cable orientation and safe headroom on every power rail used by the module. Add the stated current draw and leave reserve rather than filling a case to the power supply's limit.

Build a function rather than a collection

Oscillators, modulation sources, filters, VCAs, mixers, clocks and utilities form a signal path. Before adding a module, identify its inputs, outputs, levels, control type and the missing function. Impressive sound sources without attenuation, mixing or clock distribution can make a system awkward to use.

Signal compatibility and patching

Matching connectors do not guarantee identical voltage ranges or behaviour. Read the manual for audio, CV, gate, trigger and clock, and begin with attenuation down when interfacing external gear. Never connect or remove a module's power cable while the case is on.

Checking a used module or case

Inspect panel, screws, ribbon cable, connector, pots, jacks and LEDs. Test every input and output in a known patch rather than confirming only that it powers up. Ask about firmware, modifications, calibration and original accessories. On a used case, check power supply, bus boards, noise, mounting rails and stable voltage under load.

From a broad category to a precise comparison

Choosing Eurorack requires more than finding two listings with the same label. Compare the complete model code, revision and included equipment because a version made for another instrument, market or production period may use different dimensions, connections or compatible parts. When the listing does not show those details, request photographs of labels and decision-making areas before comparing price.

Use synths, Groove and accessories to confirm that the item belongs in the intended branch. This prevents a complete system, an accessory and a replacement part from being treated as equivalents. The category guides discovery; the individual listing must then establish identity, operation and everything included in the sale.

HP measures panel width. It must be considered together with module depth, cable clearance and available power. Confirm the detail on the exact model and request photographs or a functional test when the listing does not provide enough evidence.
It is the starting point, but each rail needs checking and safe headroom. Some modules have start-up peaks or specific requirements stated by the maker.
