Listing credibility and quality

The elements that make a listing consistent, easier to verify and easier to assess.

Before publishing, compare every part of the listing.

Check that:

  • the model in the title matches the photos;
  • the selected condition matches the description;
  • included accessories appear in the images where appropriate;
  • described defects match those shown;
  • the price corresponds to the stated configuration;
  • the same information is not presented differently in different places.

A credible listing is first and foremost internally consistent.

Terms such as “ultra rare”, “impossible to find”, “perfect”, “collector grade” or “like new” should be used only when they genuinely describe a verifiable situation.

If the item has visible wear, “like new” is inconsistent.

If the model is normally available, “impossible to find” adds emphasis but little useful information.

Replace adjectives with facts:

  • year;
  • condition;
  • originality;
  • accessories;
  • verified origin;
  • specific characteristics.

Facts allow buyers to reach their own assessment.

Do not try to replace missing information with claims about your own reliability.

Phrases such as “serious seller”, “no time wasters” or “trust me” do not help verify the item.

Credibility mainly comes from:

  • accurate identification;
  • real photos;
  • disclosed defects;
  • consistent information;
  • clear terms;
  • verifiable details.

The better documented a listing is, the less it needs to describe itself as “trustworthy”.

Before publishing, imagine that you are the buyer.

Would you ask:

  • is everything original?
  • does everything work?
  • are there any defects?
  • what is included?
  • what year is it?
  • is the serial number available?
  • do you ship?
  • is the price negotiable?
  • are more photos available?

If a question is predictable and the information is already available, adding it to the listing reduces repetitive messages and speeds up serious enquiries.

A perfect listing does not eliminate every question, but it eliminates many avoidable ones.
