A complex system is unnecessary; date, work performed, reason, replaced parts and technician already provide useful information.

Record setups, repairs, component replacement, firmware updates and recurring faults. If an invoice or service sheet exists, link it to the log entry.

Over time, this helps identify recurring problems, when a component was replaced and which parts remain original.

A replaced part does not necessarily need to be discarded.

On valuable, older or modified gear, keeping original components, labels, documents and photographs can help reconstruct the previous configuration. Clearly state whether a removed part is working, faulty or untested.

There is no need to retain every worthless consumable; keep items that have documentary, technical or historical relevance.
