Quick checklist before buying a vintage item
Before buying, verify at least:
- plausible model and variant;
- consistency of serial and other identifiers;
- date codes and major components;
- finish, structure and evidence of work;
- replaced or modified parts;
- available documentation and provenance;
- functional condition and service history;
- accessories and retained original parts;
- comparables with similar originality;
- points requiring specialist verification.
If a point supporting a large part of the value remains uncertain, include that uncertainty in the decision and the price.
