New retail pricing affects used value

For products still in production, the actual new retail price is one of the most important references.

Do not compare used gear only with the manufacturer's list price. Look at the price dealers are actually charging. If a new item with warranty and applicable return rights sells for €900, a used one at €880 may have little room unless availability or condition is unusual.

Major promotions, clearance pricing and the arrival of a new generation can reduce used value. Conversely, retail price increases or prolonged shortages can support it.

The basic rule is simple: buyers compare your used item with the alternatives they can purchase today, not with the historical price you remember.
