Gear that is not used still needs periodic checks
Lack of use does not stop batteries, materials, lubricants, foam and components from ageing.
At reasonable intervals, open the case, inspect surfaces and metal parts, check any batteries and look for moisture, odour or deformation. For electronic equipment, follow manufacturer instructions for storage and return to service.
Frequency depends on value, environment and sensitivity of the item; the important point is not to discover a problem only years later.
