Document both items before handover

Before giving up physical control of the item, keep:

• overall photos;
• serial number;
• defects;
• accessories;
• modifications;
• packaging where relevant.

Ask the other party to do the same.

Documentation does not replace official dispute procedures, but it makes it easier to reconstruct the condition of both items at the time of the trade.
