The useful limit of DIY work is different for everyone.
If work involves dangerous voltages, soldering on delicate circuits, load-bearing structures, adjustments that can cause damage or an unclear diagnosis, the risk may exceed the cost of professional service.
Before handing over the item, record symptoms, the conditions in which they appear and any work already attempted. This reduces unnecessary testing and gives the technician concrete information.
