How to set your maximum buying price

If you are buying, set your limit before the negotiation rather than during it.

Start from the market range for the correct model, then account for condition, upcoming maintenance, missing accessories, shipping, fees and technical risk. If a fault has not been diagnosed, leave room for uncertainty.

A rare item may justify a premium only when rarity is matched by genuine demand and by your own specific interest. Do not confuse fear of missing out with evidence of value.

Your maximum price should be the amount at which the purchase still makes sense after all foreseeable costs are considered, not the maximum amount you can financially afford.
