Originality, condition and utility can pull in different directions

With vintage gear, separate at least three questions: how original is it, what condition is it in and how usable is it today?

An original but deteriorated component may matter historically while still requiring maintenance. A modern replacement may improve reliability and safety while reducing the amount of original material.

There is no single answer for every buyer. A working musician may prioritise reliability and reversibility; a collector focused on a specific series may care more about original configuration.

A good description should make these trade-offs visible rather than compressing them into “original” or “perfect”.
