Checklist: deciding whether a used price is fair

Before making an offer:

  1. verify that the listing describes the exact version you are looking for;
  2. compare several prices and, where available, completed sales;
  3. check cosmetic and functional condition;
  4. assess modifications, repairs, originality and missing accessories;
  5. consider new-product availability and equivalent alternatives;
  6. add shipping, insurance and foreseeable maintenance;
  7. increase your safety margin when data is scarce or a fault is undiagnosed;
  8. set your maximum price before negotiating.

A price is attractive only if it remains sensible after all these checks. The discount from the seller's asking price is not a measure of value; the real market comparison is what matters.
